The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) is inviting scholars, students, researchers, environmentalists and members of the public to a special talk, “𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐫 – 𝐀𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤,” by noted environmental journalist, researcher, and author 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐣 𝐒𝐞𝐤𝐡𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚.

The proposed mega infrastructure project in Great Nicobar has generated significant debate around development, ecological conservation, biodiversity and the future of one of India’s most environmentally sensitive island ecosystems. Drawing on his extensive research and reporting on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Pankaj Sekhsaria will examine the transformations unfolding in Great Nicobar and the wider environmental and developmental questions surrounding the project.

Pankaj Sekhsaria is the recipient of the Prem Bhatia Environment Journalism Award 2026 for his research and reporting on the Great Nicobar mega infrastructure project. He is also the author and editor of seven books on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, reflecting decades of engagement with the region. The session will be chaired by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝐌, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, ISEC, and moderated by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐧𝐚 𝐑𝐚𝐣, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐏, ISEC. The event will be held on 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, between 𝟑:𝟎𝟎 𝐏𝐌 – 𝟒:𝟑𝟎 𝐏𝐌 at the Institute for Social and Economic Change.
