Why Can't All Plants Just Get Along

We hear the word “diversity” all the time. But what does it really mean in nature? Is it just the number of species in a place, or is there more to it?

For ecologists, this question has led to a much bigger one: why do some species coexist while others don’t? What makes them compete, cooperate or simply live alongside each other? And how do these relationships shape the communities around us?

In this lecture, Dr. Meghna Krishnadas will use plants as a model to explore these questions. She’ll look at species through their different traits, how they function, interact and respond to their environments, and what this means for the communities they form.

Understanding how species coexist also helps us understand what happens when their environments change. And with the world changing rapidly, that question is becoming important.

Meghna will also explore what global environmental change could mean for ecological communities and the future of biodiversity.
