What if Bengaluru was designed by Bengaluru?

Bengaluru is made up of thousands of everyday objects and systems that shape how we experience the city — streetlights, bus stops, benches, road medians, bins, signs, shopfronts and neighbourhood markers.

This open call as part of Bengaluru Jatre (Dec 4-13, 2026) invites everyone! Designers, architects, artists, students, urban practitioners, and creative practitioners to rethink these everyday elements and propose practical ways to make Bengaluru more functional, welcoming, beautiful and distinctly its own.

The brief is simple: design for the real city. Show what can be from what it is!

We are looking for ideas that are low-cost, high-impact, implementable and scalable — ideas that can work with existing infrastructure, materials, systems and civic processes, without disrupting the functioning of the city.

The strongest ideas will not remain on paper. A jury constituted by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will assess submissions, after which the relevant Corporations will take selected ideas forward for implementation, with proposals adapted, tweaked or restructured where necessary for feasibility. During the Bengaluru Jatre in December 2026, the submissions will be showcased to the citizens as an exhibition of ideas and elicit feedback.

What happens next?

15 NOVEMBER 2026 — Submission deadline

Submissions to be sent to: support@bengalurujatre.in

A jury constituted by the Greater Bengaluru Authority of design and brand experts will review the proposals. Selected ideas will be shared with the relevant GBA Corporations for consideration and implementation. Corporations may adapt, combine, tweak or restructure proposals based on technical, financial, operational and site-specific feasibility.

A public showcase of selected ideas during Bengaluru Jatre (Dec 4-13, 2026) will bring together the strongest proposals and demonstrate what Bengaluru could look like when its citizens and creative community are invited to design the city.

The best designers will be invited for a meeting with the Minister for Bengaluru Development to discuss their ideas and how to take it forward.
