Karnataka collects public water data every year, yet much of it goes unused. India Research Corps (IRC), a WELL Labs initiative, is hosting a 'Water Data Hackathon' on October 17 as part of Bengaluru Climate Data Week.
Students and early-career researchers will work in teams on real datasets from the Karnataka Water Resources Information System (K-WRIS) portal. The datasets cover rainfall, reservoir levels, groundwater, and more. The analyses will support decisions on water availability, allocation, and planning, and the outputs will be directly used by the Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management (ACIWRM), Government of Karnataka.
The hackathon is open to students, postgraduates, and early-career researchers interested in data analysis, water, or public policy. Curiosity and comfort working with data required; prior water-sector experience will help but is not mandatory.
